Add-on Installation Failures- Waiting to install with Firefox 54 version

more options

Have I reached a different reality where Firefox versions are being produced in reverse?

My recent attempts to install three new add-ons under Firefox version 52.6 ... have each said the Add-on will only work with version 54 or later or between version 54-57.

I just installed to the latest version, so this shouldn't be happening.

And why should great apps stop working when firefox versions are updated. Can't you guys stay on a platform for at least three years. You guys are making my life difficult, not easier.

Are you still running Windows XP? Only the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52 is available for Windows XP. While it has received security updates over the past many months, it is not getting new features.

Firefox 52 didn't have full support for the newer "WebExtensions" type of add-ons. So you may find that some extensions use a capability that requires a version higher than 52, whether it's 54 or higher.

You might be able to find backwards compatible versions of an extension using its "Versions" page. When you find an interesting extension, either:

  • scroll down to the "More information" on the left side and click the "See all versions" link
  • edit the address in the address bar by adding versions/ to the end and press Enter to load it

Each version should indicate compatible Firefox versions and have its own install button.
