is there a way to look at message contents without actually opening the message

in Windows mail Vista version, I could click on the email to see the contents; double click to actually open it. Is there a similar process in Thunderbird. I've checked out the different settings and didn't see anything that seemed to cover this option. So far all I've been able to do is double click and open the email. Thanks for helping me out.

Chosen solution

try pressing F8 to turn on the message pane. It is not a preview, but it is also not a new tab to close.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed. I thought all that was doing was previewing when in Vista, but I can live with this!

It is the method that I use to read about 99% of my mail. You might want to look at the compact header add-on, that reduced the header with from to and the buttons to 1 or 2 lines. I then add the buttons I actually use to the main toolbar at the top, reply forward etc.

I've already added the reply, forward, etc., and I think I'm OK with the headers. thanks for the thought tho. While I've got you, tho. Is there a way to send an email with multiple bcc contacts by selecting multiple contacts at a time? I've only been able to select/add them 1 at a time. And actually I have the same problem with any email. I often send to multiple recipients, and don't want to have to choose all or just 1 at a time. I am very new to tbird, so I have a lot to learn.

DO you have the contact pane turned on in the compose window. F9

By far the easiest way to add multiple contacts. Hold the Ctrl key while clicking to select your "list" from the list then click the add to BCC button.

I suggest you also look as holding shift. Selects everything between what you have selected already and where you click. Ctrl works on the item clicked. Use shift to select the bulk, then change to Ctrl to deselect a couple of add a couple more.

Thanks again. I also found out I needed to move all my contacts to my personal contacts list. When they were just in contacts, every time I clicked on 1, it shut the list down. After I moved my contacts over, I got it to work as you suggested. Thanks again! I think I'm good to go now!
