Add-ons don't mount. I am running 10.13, High Sierra on my new Mac. Is it still not supported?
Mark all read button came in downloads, but it won't mount in the menu bar. Also, how do I get "show remote content" to show automatically?

After you download the Mark All Read Button add-on, select Tools/Add-ons/Extensions, click the cog icon next to the search bar, Install Add-on from File..., and select the downloaded xpi file. Then, right-click the Menu Bar, Customize, or View/Toolbars/Customize, and drag the button onto the toolbar.
To have remote content shown automatically, Preferences/Options/Privacy, check 'Allow remote content in messages'. You must also have View/Message Body as set to Original HTML.
None of those come up in High Sierra.
Tools/Add-ons/Extensions does not have either a cog icon or a search bar.
Preferences does not have Options. The buttons under preferences are General, Display, Composition, Security, Attachments and Advanced.
What is your TB version? Current versions have all those choices under Preferences, as well as Chat and Privacy. Otherwise, you can change the preference mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image to false under Preferences/Advanced/General/Config. editor.
If there's no cog or search bar in your version, try dragging the add-on xpi file and dropping it onto Tools/Add-ons/Extensions.
TB is 3.1.17.
That is ancient. Why not update?
That is the Mac version that is downloaded from the Mozilla site. What is the most recent version and how do I update it?

Thunderbird 52.5.2 is the current version.

If you were downloading Thunderbird six years ago today then Thunderbird 3.1.17 was the current as it came out December 20th, 2011. https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/
Aha! Now I see. It seems that it was uploaded from an external hard drive from the old computer that was bought in January, 2012.
Is there a way to upgrade to 52.5.2, or do I have to download a new version and reinstall?
Download and AFTER backing up your 'profile(s)' directory clean install and if needed re-import profiles directory fi for some odd reason it does not automagically see the proper directory.
By and large you update in place. Just download and install the newer version; it should just pick up your existing settings aka "profile" and use them.
You could and should make a backup of your profile before doing this. Just in case.
