I use TB 52.5.0 (32-bit) Desktop Win 7 Home. I use POP mail accounts, and leave mail on server for at most 5 days. Today 104Mb of mails disapeared from a subfolder. (An important cliënt). All of them were at least 3 weeks old. The oldest was about 18 months old. Recent mails from the last 3 weeks are all still there in the subfolder. I am sure I did not accidentally select 700 mails and dragged them elsewhere or delete them. I did not empty my deleted items. I also did not access the pop-box from any where else, and evenso, if I would have, they were all already long downloaded to my local desktop.

Looking for a solution I... - Compacted the subfolder. The statusbar responded "104Mb saved". - Deleted the .msf files and restarted TB. - Searched in Personal folders (where it all happens), including Subfolders, in Deleted, in Sent, in Archived, in Spam, everything. - Looked in Windows Explorer and found a 16Mb size mail-file, corresponding with the 3 weeks of mail, indicating that they are not there anymore.

What could this be? What am I overlooking? It seems misterious to me.

I just copied my nightly backup (110Mb) over and shouldn't have lost anything. BUT.... Upon opening a it, (It takes a while to display) they're gone too! The cut off point 3 weeks back, is at the same point.

Why is TB killing my mails??? Is any one available to provide assitance / give hints? Thanks, Regards, Thomas.

PS. It's also not the retention settings. In account settings that is set to Don't delete any messages. And in the folder propeties that is set to Use my account settings.

I tried it once more. Copied the backup of 110Mb over, opened TB, opened the folder, ...., They're not there. Compact, appx 104Mb saved, 4Mb left in WinExpl.

I can't get my head round to why they are vanishing.

Problem solved! Thank you to @Zenos!

Here's what I did. 1st I closed TB. Then I went down the structure to the actual file that contains my mails, that weren't showing anymore. (The 110Mb file, see above).

I opened a copy in Notepad++ and did a search and replace. Search: X-Mozilla-Status: .* with 'regular expression on' Replace: X-Mozilla-Status: 0001

Opened TB and voila! all 660 mails back in view.

Anybody any idea as to WHY this went wrong? Could it happen again?!

Thanks @Zenos! Very much!

It would seem they were marked as "deleted". I can't say why this would happen.

Thanks.

0009 (Means Marked for deletion) is what I saw originally indeed, and what I altered into 0000.

Cause is unknown. Lets drop it. Time to move on.

Cheers, Thomas.
