I need outgoing messages to display my new surname: how do I change this?
I've had Thunderbird for a few weeks, after getting my computer re-formatted. I have just discovered that my maiden name is displayed to recipients, not my married surname, and can't find how to change this, either in Thunderbird or in Windows 7.
Chosen solution
Generally what people see is a display name and an email address, such as
John Doe <john.doe@example.com>
If what is causing your trouble is the display name that is, "john Doe" in my example, you can change that in Thunderbird's account settings.
Tools|Account Settings|{select the account}|Account Settings→Your name:
If it's the other bit then that's your email address and you won't be able to change that. You'd need to get a new email account.

I'm really sorry: I have now discovered that I didn't have the problem after all! I was fooled by a reply from an online shop which still has my account in my maiden name.
However, I should point out that my account settings were not under Tools; instead I found them by going to the Account window, which I didn't know existed.
Thanks for your speedy reply.
