tabs become too narrow, i can read just 3-4 letters on it. is it possible to make them wider?

In addition to the above (just in case you don't already know) :
To get to that preference, mentioned by Mkll :
Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter)
(promise to be careful, if asked)
Then type in the search bar and look for the preference that Mkll mentioned.
After you've changed its value :
Close and restart Firefox, in order for the change to take effect.

Yes it is! Go to about:config, search for the pref browser.tabs.tabMinWidth and change the number to 100!

Hi, Happy! Thanks for the extra information -- but in my case Firefox did not need to be restarted, the change happened in front of my eyes!
