It appears that Thunderbird has a long delay when opening up into offline mode if the internet is down. Is this caused by Thunderbird attempting to find a internet connection for a set amount of time before it opens in offline mode? And if so is there a way to make this a faster process?

Also, you can explicitly start in offline mode by adding

 -offline

to the properties of the Thunderbird shortcut in windows
