If you are needing to rearrange mail accounts, then you can use this addon: Manually Sort Folders

Download addon xpi file to desktop or downloads folder

How to install

  • 'Tools' > 'Addons' OR 'Menu icon' > 'Addons'
  • click on gear wheel icon and select : 'Install addon from file'
  • locate the addon xpi file you downloaded and click on 'Open'

You may need to restart Thunderbird at prompt.

If you are only wanting to set a default mail account - the one that appears at the top of the list, then this can be done in Account Settings.

  • Right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • click on mail account you want to set as default.
  • click on 'Account actions'
  • click on 'Set as default'
  • click on OK

I've downloaded the xpi file and it is in my downloads folder, however when I follow these instructions, I do not see a gear wheel icon anywhere or anything else that says install addon

Tools' > 'Addons' OR 'Menu icon' > 'Addons' click on gear wheel icon and select : 'Install addon from file'

This is what my addons window looks like when I go to tools, addons

also when i click on learn more it does nothing

Move down one stop to the Extensions tab on that page. For some crazy reason, the facilities for searching for addons no longer appear on the "Get Add-ons" page.

Menus and dialogs are there for your use. Explore them!
