When receiving mails, Thunderbird always gets into an endless loop when it is going to receive the 49th mail: it's always the 49th mail that Thunderbird cannot download. After this error occurs Thunderbird will no longer be able to receive any mails, even from my other mail-accounts. Restarting Thunderbird doesn't help, only restarting the computer will enable Thunderbird to receive any mails again, but it will never receive more than 48 mails for the mail account.

Chosen solution

Perhaps there is something not quite correct with the 49th email and it is causing a log jam.

Log on to webmail account via browser. Empty the Spam folder. check Inbox for 49th email and either read and delete or try moving to another folder which you are not using in thunderbird.

In thunderbird Try 'get Messages'.

Thx! Deleting all spam mails solved the problem. Thunderbird was able to download all other mails.

You wrote "Deleting all spam mails solved the problem."

Does that mean deleting messages from Inbox? Or emptying Spam folder as Toad-Hall suggested?

It means deleting spam messages from inbox. So it seems to me that corrupt mails (e.g. spam mails) may block Thunderbird when downloading mails.
