I have drag-and-dropped successfully from IMAP to Local Folders. I am not sure sure that dropping a folder into an IMAP account is "do-able".

How about creating an empty folder in the 2nd account, then dragging (or right-click|move) the contents from the 1st account's folder?

D&D a folder onto another account should work. Not advisable for a large folder

Thank you for your answer. I don't want to move the folder to another account. I want to move it to another folder in the same account.

Thank you for your answer. When I right-click on a folder, I don't see the option "move" (see attachment). Also in the menu of thunderbird I don't see the option move.

Just drag and drop the folder itself. No right-click or menu needed.

By "contents" I meant opening the folder, selecting messages inside it and moving them. Here you can again use drag and drop, but I'd personally prefer to use right-click and "move to". As Wayne hinted with his mention of a "large folder", this is best done in several moves of modest numbers of messages.

Note that some servers insist that all user defined folders are created as subfolders of some other folder, usually Inbox. In such a case, moving or attempting to create a new folder in any other place may be futile.

Now I could drag and drop one folder. But then I selected multiple folders and tried to drag and drop them, and they didn't get moved. After I "drop", they don't get moved to the folder. After that I could also not move single folders any more. I had to restart Thunderbird. Now I can move single folders only. It seems like drag and drop of multiple IMAP folders is a problem in Thunderbird which is already 7 years old: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589008

Thank you, I didn't know about this functionality.

I have this problem as well, but it is not Thunderbird, imho - instead, it is a feature (aka weakness) of the server providing the IMAP function (aka your email provider).

Eventually, I plan to get mine (imap service) updated - but my local imap server is more comparable to imap-v2 (i.e., no support for folders within folders) than the latest version of the imap protocol.

I also have an email account 'hosted' by gmail, and sub-folders work fine. Subfolders also work fine in "Local Folders".

So, to test your situation - try copying a folder to a Local Folder, and then copy yet another folder into that Local Folder as a sub-folder. IMHO - should work "fine".
