Firefox not responding when I try to type. It freezes.

I've spent hours trying to fix this. Firfox just suddenly froze while using google search. The screen keyboard freezes it too. I have few add-ons but ran in safe mode also restarted and refreshed Firefox, no good. I have a HP Pavillion21 all-in-one, Windows 10, I am up to date with Firefox. Nothing on line has helped. Does this mean I have to dumped Firefox for good? I hope not. Also can any one tell me how to get my +tab back where it belongs it moved to the right hand edge of my page.Please tell me this is not another why don't we move something just because we can?

I tried that too,yesterday but it didn't work either. I finally just shut everything down, unplugged my internet and computer and this morning it started it all up again and for some reason that fixed it, hopefully for good. I don't know what was wrong but it seems happy today. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your help.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
