Can't receive new emails without restarting thunderbird

more options

Hi,

Using the latest version of thunderbird 52.2.1 (32-bit) and connecting to a hosted exchange server via IMAP.

Thunderbird will not receive new emails without closing and restarting the application. Using 'get messages' doesn't work.

I've confirmed this on two different PC's ( Windows 7 Pro 64bit and Windows 10 Pro 64bit )

I'm more than happy to blame my provider :) but i'd like to provide more information so is their a debug log i can look at ?

Cheers

Yes, you can enable various levels of logging in Thunderbird as explained here. Doing so and reporting back may also help developers in case there is an issue in Thunderbird.

Does the issue happen for one particular provider only, did it recently start happening (e.g. after a Thunderbird update, possibly the one to 52.2.1 from last week), and does it work properly when installing an older Thunderbird version? For the latter, you could safely uninstall Thunderbird and install an older version from here without losing your data, but make sure to copy your profile data beforehand just in case anything goes wrong.

Captain, has your problem gone away?

Welll....

It's been a bit of a saga so far. On some machines it's working as expected - others not so much.

I'm trying to isolate wether it's a particular user account or a combintation of issues at the moment.

I will report when I narrow things down a bit more.

Cheers
