I am a longtime user of Thunderbird. Within past 6 months, the time taken for a sent message to be saved in the SENT MAIL folder has held up continuing with work. It "hangs" there for a very long time before being stored. This has not been my experience in years past.

Thanks for your help!

Chosen solution

This is an imap account? gmail? How many messages in Sent folder?

Please start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away? Please reply to let us know results.

I tried the SAFE mode as suggested, and it appeared to fix the problem when I returned to the regular launch of the app. However, my wife, with her account, and I, with mine, still found delays of up to 1 min before the sent mail phase would be completed. Not every message; not just messages with attachments. I really like Thunderbird, but this issue is really frustrating as nothing can be done until it is finished with its Sent Mail process! gmail is my primary mail source. I am using Thunderbird on an iMac, running MacOS Sierra, Version 10.12.5 with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5

> I tried the SAFE mode as suggested, and it appeared to fix the problem The question though is, is the problem totally gone for an extended period of time WHILE IN SAFE MODE? Suggest you retest.

1. How many messages in your Sent folder? 2. How many messages in your All Mail folder? 3. How many messages in your Trash folder?

4. Delete as much as you can from your Sent folder. 5. Unsubscribe your All Mail folder - it is not really needed in Thunderbird. (Alt+File, Subscribe, Uncheck All Mail)

This morning I unsubscribed from All Mail - from GMAIL. I did not see an all mail folder in Thunderbird. There are no more than 50 messages in either Sent or Trash.

At one point in sending to the Sent Mail folder, I got an error that it had timed-out trying to connect to GMAIL.

Length of message or attachment or not doesn't seem to be a factor in this delay.
