"Back up"? Easy. Copy your profile onto your external HDD.

That's assuming the "back up" is for data recovery in the event of your internal HDD failing.

If you're thinking more of an archive, the profile copy isn't so useful. In that case, I'd consider exporting messages to a suitable text format file. The ImportExportTools add-on might be of help.
