How do I import an address book?

I had a hard drive crash. The email and address books were backed up on an external drive. I had no trouble bringing the email into the newly installed T-Bird 5, but I can't restore the address books.

.I copied the two .mab files from the backup drive to the profile file (xxxx.defult) but when I click on the address book in T-bird, there are no addresses. It's a 469kB file, so something's in it.

Do I have to do some kind of export and import?

Chosen solution

If you copied abook.mab and history.mab, they should be recognized in TB. Of course, TB should be closed during the process, and the mab files should not be read-only, as they might be if copied from a DVD.

That was T-bird 52.

Copying mab files into the profile folder only works for abook.mab (Personal Address Book) and history.mab (Collected Addresses). For any other mab file, import it to TB with the MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on (how to install). Then, in Address Book, Tools/MoreFunctionsForAddressBook/Actions for addressbooks/Import addressbook from mab file.

The address books I copied into the profile folder were abook, mab and history.mab. I'll look into "more functions for address book" but I'm hoping to do the simple copy route.

I found the problem. There were two profiles. A new one was in users>dick>appdata>roaming>profiles. The old one was in users>dick>documents>appdata>roaming>profiles. That's where my mail is. I had to put the mab files into the old profile file.

Thanks for the guidance.
