can't sign in. sign in screen frozen

I am trying to set up Thunderbird.

When I opening Tbird it goes to my gmail account which is configured as the location for my mail.

The sign in screen does nothing when I attempt sign in. Is there anything I could have done wrong that would not stop me from reaching the sign in screen?

I downloaded Thunderbird today. I can't find a help screen to get it's version. I have Win 10 64 bit Home Premium on the PC.

Please update to version 52.1.0 using help > about
