Anytime I drag a downloaded file to my desktop it becomes a "fileloc" file instead of the normal pdf.

After some research, it seems this file extensions when the location/shortcut of the file is attached, not the file.

Can you right click on the item and select "Save File As" to see if it makes a difference?

If it is happening with all the files you download on multiple websites, it may also be helpful to reset all the saved preferences in the Applications menu of your Firefox Settings.
