I go to a website and then to a page within that website. When I use the (left arrow icon) to go back one page I find that the page that I'm on is reloading over and over again. What is wrong?

Many web pages, especially news type, change now and then. What happens is the page you started from is no longer available.

This is what I do; I right-click the link I want to check and select Open New Tab/Window. Once I am done I close that tab and I am back where I started from.

You can also do this with other links you want to check.
