Is there a message preview column (not pane) such as in Outlook?

I am setting up Thunderbird for the first time. I would like to have the message previewed in the column area, not only in the preview pane. Is there a way to do this?

I have attached a snip from Outlook highlighting what I am looking for in yellow.

Thanks,

Richard

There is no preview in Thunderbird. You open a message in the Message Pane, a Tab or a Window.

The closest you can get to this is, If you have the Message Pane open (F8), by selecting multiple messages in the Threads Pane (message list), and then the first few lines of the message bodies are displayed in the pane as 'conversations'.

Thanks to you both for the info!

Does anyone else think this would be a desirable feature?

The Outlook-style Threads Pane has been requested by a few users over the years, and there was an add-on that hinted at the possibility, but I rather doubt it is a feature that will ever be added to TB. But you can add your vote here:
