I am using windows 7, FF 45.5.1, and I think this problem started immediately after FF updated itself.

When I start FF no sign on screen appears
Can you explain in more detail what that means?

Usually when I open TB a screen appears and I have to enter my bellsouth email id and password. After I do that it downloads my email. This process no longer is working. I looked at the link you provided but this problem started right after TB updated itself and I have not changed any configuration stuff in years.
Are you saying you were prompted to set up your account over and over?
If not anymore now, is the account now set up?
Please post your Troubleshooting Information.
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Press the Copy text to clipboard button and paste the information into your reply.

Then I'd suggest you look at it again if you find something related to a recent update.

Thanks for your help.
Have you adjusted your server settings before or after you posted here? In other words, what exactly is your problem now?
If you still have a problem, please explain in detail:
- what you're doing
- what happens
- what you expect to happen
I have not adjusted server settings.
What I am doing: Starting thunderbird.
What happens: thunderbird starts but then nothing happens.
What I expect: Thunderbird starts and presents a sign on window. I enter my bellsouth id and password. Then thunderbird should download my new messages.
Did you tell Thunderbird to remember your account password? In that case you won't see a password prompt.
Are there any new messages on the server which are supposed to show up in Thunderbird? You can check by logging in to your account via webmail.
What is your anti-virus software?
Just to confirm, is there any error message?
Is there anything suspicious in the Error Console? Ctrl-Shift-J
