How to find out whether a folder has unread messages?

more options

I am sure this issue is not unique to me. Perhaps it falls in the "Feature Request" category.

Background info: I never use Linux GUIs. Only CLI/shell.

My goal is to process my e-mail seamlessly from the Linux side (sendmail, procmail, dovecot, mutt) and the Windows side (Thunderbird). I receive e-mail messages from many sources and sometimes I am not in the proper mode (family mode, work mode, mailing list mode) to read a message that just arrived. The procmail tool allows me to redirected messages to folders automatically upon reception. The big question is:

Which folders contain unread messages?

I wish there was some icon on top of unread folders.

TIA

Despite all the info about your cli use of Linux, I take it this question is about Thunderbird on Windows?
