Some messages received are marked "(Disarmed)". What's this mean?
I think this is a new feature with a recent Thunderbird update.
Chosen solution
Thunderbird does not modify the subject line. So it seems likely that someone else is filtering your email for you. Ask your ISP, email provider or the author of your security software about this.
The implication is that they have removed some part of the content which they consider dangerous (such as a suspected virus) but some detectors are trigger-happy and take offence at any content they simply don't understand.
As an example, I have tried digitally signing messages and the "binary" signature component has been considered to be untrustworthy by the recipient's systems simply because it isn't human-readable text.

It isn't a Thunderbird feature. Please post a screenshot. http://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem
I had a little trouble replying, but here is a screen shot. This is part of my "trash" folder, with several messages marked "Disarmed". They all happen to have come from known, friendly sources. Note, most of the messages with attachments appear malicious, and I NEVER open them.
