I am saving Thunderbird emails in folders under my documents on my desktop hard drive. They are .emls when saved They were once readable in TB but not now. Is Adblock Plus or Lightning (extensions) causing the problem? Any other ideas welcome!

Chosen solution

Right click on of those .eml files and select 'Properties' select 'Security' tab Do you as user have all permissions ? Full control, modify, read & execute etc

Test: Is the fact that they are in 'Documents' causing an issue? What happens if you create folder on desktop called eg: 'TB mail' and put .eml files into that folder and then try to open one?

no idea, have you tried safe mode? (Restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu.)

I have a partial solution to my problem. If I log on as an Administrator my links to websites work (into Chrome). but not otherwise. If I log on NOT as an Administrator my saved emails work, but NOT my links to websites. I think this reveals a bug (or two) to be fixed.

Anybody else with this problem? Or found a solution!

Thanks Toad-Hall. I checked and I have all permissions. I hate to say it but the system is now working without any apparent change effected by me, I have browser links working and saved emails now readable and I don't know how this happened. It's as if TB did a sneaky update I wasn't aware of.

But thank you Toad and Matt for your help.
