BCC emails are not sending. why are my emails with BCC recipients not being sent/received by the BCC recipients?

This feature has worked great for 2 years. I send "mass emails" (under 300 recipients) to our Baseball Membership, and it's always worked fine. This weekend, the BCC's were being emailed. Even when I tried to BCC 1 person, it wouldn't send to BCC, but would to TO: recipients. How do I fix this?

Is this using a Microsoft mail site such as Hotmail? They turned off BCC and refuse to send them some months ago for me and many others.

Yes, it's through Microsoft. Is there a way to turn the BCC back on from Microsoft account?

Not that I am aware of. I had someone on this forum tell me that they managed to get it to work for up to 12, but he is the only one I have heard of.

Microsoft simply do not answer posts on their support board asking for help with the issue, or they tell you it works on outlook.com in your web browser.

Those that want a solution have been actually migrating their mail to a more reasonable solution provider, Google, Yahoo, or GMX. all of which manager to abide by the RFC's for sending mail.

Do you have at least one email address (even if it your own) in a TO field and then others in a Bcc field?

Yes. I've always emailed TO: my self, and Bcc'd the membership. Again, it had worked fine until a week ago.....coinciding with Microsoft email account update......

Matt's comment sounds correct. There's quite a few comments on various forums eg: apple, windows, enclient etc all saying the same thing.

Is it a pop or imap mail account?

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/opeople-ocontacts/outlookcom-moving-addresses-from-bcc-field-to-the/b4505d03-7b66-4f98-a878-f1d82fcf42a6

https://forum.emclient.com/emclient/topics/bcc-functionality-has-stopped-working One person says: Microsoft changed API processing for all Microsoft email accounts with "live", "hotmail", "outlook", and "msn". As a result of that change, people who use a desktop email program such as eM Client, Thunderbird, and Postbox to send emails with Bcc adresses through the outgoing SMTP Outlook.com server experience major problems because the Bcc addresses do not process correctly.

Possible Workarounds to consider: Create gmail account if you do not have one and use the gmail smtp outgoing server to send. To make sure replies comes back to the correct email address, put your email address in a 'Reply-to' field or access Account Settings for mail account and enter your email address in the 'Reply-to address' text field. Gmail is ok with bcc, so it should work as expected.

If you are sending out a type of 'group' email known as sending a 'Mailing list'; one email to several people who are regular people receiving an email from you and you have previously always put the mailing list in a Bcc field, I would suggest you take a look at 'Mail Merge' addon extension, as this will send each person an email in a TO field instead of one email to a group. So no one sees any others email address.

I have a Microsoft account (outlook.com) and use Thunderbird to manage my mails. I ran into the same error:

Scenario 1: Use Thunderbird to send message, using my outlook IMAP account To: 1 person and BCC: 8 people BCC messages are lost, they never arrived

Scenario 2: Use Outlook client (Office 2016), using my outlook IMAP account To: 1 person and BCC: 8 people BCC messages have been delivered!!!

Doesn't this refer to Thunderbird, which doesn't handle the outlook IMAP account properly? What does Thunderbird differently than Outlook?

Outlook does not connect to the servers using IMAP. It uses proprietary Microsoft mail protocols called emapi, or exchange activsync.

I have no doubt the failure is not accidental on Microsoft's part, and I am also sure that they could fix it in a flash if they had the will to. But it does make for nice vendor lock-in if the products you sell work as everyone expects and no one elses does. Unless the developer license your proprietary protocols. Either way you make money from the customer accessing their mail. You sell a license to someone.

I can not get any sense out of their support on the topic. They are in denial really.

Alternative workaround would be to send email to TO and CC. then access that 'Sent' copy and forward email as a TO to other party (the person who would have received it as a Bcc) OR attach the sent copy. This does mean doing things twice.

So depending upon your work process and how many people get Bcc, you should be able to use one of the alternatives suggested.

I have this problem too. bcc worked fine until a few days ago. I have 2 hotmail/outlook.com accounts. For some reason, even tho they seem to be the same version, one of them still allows me to use bcc when sending email from TB, but the other account stopped allowing bcc's a few days ago. When i send an email from within outlook.com itself tho, the bcc works. Would be nice if hotmail would get its act together, or at least let the user know when it's changing something.

Make sure to post a complaint to their feedback forums. Perhaps with enough complaints about this poorly designed change they will go back to doing things the correct way.

Please do not comment on or berate my use of CAPS in this reply. It's only for emphasis, NOT shouting...

After doing many tests based on the many answers provided on this subject I find: BCC does NOT work from THUNDERBIRD for any HOTMAIL / OUTLOOK account. BCC DOES work from THUNDERBIRD for any GMAIL account. BCC DOES work directly from the HOTMAIL or OUTLOOK sites. My only conclusion is that MICROSOFT has taken it upon themselves to minimize the value of THUNDERBIRD by making BCC an unusable feature for HOTMAIL / OUTLOOK accounts (I think I can safely assume LIVE accounts also suffer this deficiency.) My solution? I now forward emails received in my main HOTMAIL account by using my secondary GMAIL account. Until MOZILLA comes to terms with MICROSOFT and settles this issue, I believe we are stuck with it. I have always preferred THUNDERBIRD and will continue to use it as long as it offers the easiest and best access and usability of my many accounts.

Nothing to come to terms with, Microsoft do not send BCC from their SMTP servers. So anyone not using their web site or Microsoft Outlook will have the issue. This applies to all the historical email names outlook.com has had, Live MSN Hotmail et al.

They also deliberately make the calendar difficult or impossible to use in non Microsoft products.

Please ensure you make Microsoft away that you are not happy. Telling those on this thread will help no one. You are preaching to the choir.

I hate to muddy the waters here, but I have 2 hotmail accounts. One of them has stopped sending bcc's, giving me the same problem that everyone is having. But my other hotmail account still sends bcc's from emails that I write in TB. I've looked at the 2 accounts and can't tell any difference between them. They're both set up the same way in TB, and they both seem to be the same when I open them in hotmail online. I'd love to know what the difference is so that I could try to fix my now-bcc-deficient hotmail account.

I have now been advised by Microsoft that they have rolled out a fix to about 75% of their servers and the rest should be patched within the week.

If you still have issues after a week please speak up as they are of the opinion they have fixed this issue.

I have finally made contact with a human at Microsoft that we can discuss these sorts of issues with, so perhaps we can fix this and a couple of other issues.

Worked great for me in a test email to all my other accounts... now I can get away from using Mail for Windows 10 to send all my BCC emails.

Thanks for the notification.

I always thought this was a situation kind of like Microsoft bundling and locking IE with Windows and being forced to open the architecture to 3rd party browsers.

Nope, they assure me it was an inadvertent bug and they were surprised it took so long to be escalated from their support to the engineers.

But you are welcome to believe whatever you like, as am I.

Matt, I don't know how you survive each day having to put up with such stupid people as myself...

Seriously, your stock just went way down by adding the second, unnecessary and insulting sentence. Remind me to never ask your opinion again.
