Version 45.2 Have defaults set to Foxit Reader. Have tried Lightening Professional and PDFWriter. Was working when first downloaded Thunderbird. Since Adobe DC updated, only it works.

Uninstalled Adobe DC but nothing else opens pdf's unless saved.

Chosen solution

On the toolbar > Options > Attachments > incoming and delete the references to PDF files.
