Trying to move my profile to a new computer. ARCHIVE, DRAFTS, SENT, have thousands of emails, but are not within the /profile/Mail/ folder. So where are they hidden, and how do I get them into the new computer??? What a royal PIA. Spent pretty much all day farting with this process.

Just don't post in this forum in a day or two that your are having trouble moving your profile because you have it in fragments with absolute path names. You choose to use absolute paths to store your data you are on your own.

Oh my mistake you have already done that. Three questions in two days all around this decision you made and then forgot about.

They seem to be in a folder in DOCUMENTS which is named (maybe by me years ago) THUNDERBIRD APP INBOX & TRASH.

Wondering what content is in this INBOX.

I am completely mystified why some folders are NOT in the Profile folder.

There are also 4 "account" folders within MAIL. BUT I expect to see only three: Local Folders PrimaryEmail.IPname.net SecondaryEmail.IPname.net

but they seem to be named Local Folders

IPname.net --this seems to have zero file sizes

IPname-1.net -- folder names indicate it is the secondary

IPname-2.net -- the primary, but missing SENT,DRAFTS, ARCHIVE

Under Account Settings in Thunderbird, there is in each account a setting named "Local Directory" which tells you where the mailstore is located.

Thank you for providing a worked example of what goes wrong when people needlessly fiddle with this setting. Whenever this topic comes up, I advise against disconnecting the mail stores from the profile proper.

I moved it for more security over my files, putting it into an encrypted area. But I forgot about it after several years.

Can I put a README.TXT file into the profile folder without messing up its function?

Who remembers every Preference setting years later?

The mozilla files about the profile folder & how to copy/move it should mention that portions of the data might have been moved by the user.

I have not fiddled with the Thunderbird. There is no "Local Directory" listing under account settings. Where is the Sent folder stored for my email account on my Win 7 Pro computer? Perhaps I can back it up if I can find where to send the data to from Clickfree.

This one here? (see attached)

But, I urge you to read the thread above, and work with your profile. It has settings files that glue all the component parts together. Back it all up. If you can't find these files now, imagine the trouble you'll have trying to slot them back in after a disaster or even a move from one computer to another.

Backups are useless if you can't restore from them. Do you know what to do with the file that represents one particular Sent folder? (OK, maybe you have only one account. I had 11 last time I counted. :-( )
