I'm trying to click on a hyperlink for a file located at //drivename/path1/path2/file. The link opens just fine in outlook as "file://///drivename/path1/path2/file" but if I use thunderbird it opens into the browser as "file:///path1/path2/file". How can I fix this?

You'll need to specify the exact path beginning with the drive letter.
