download problem
Had a hard drive fail, then had my pc shop, install a new ssd for the main OS, and a new 1 TB hard drive for the rest of my apps. Lost a lot of apps and programs. So I had to download and install Thunderbird. Here's the problem.
Only one email account installed. So I have 3 emails I use with Thunderbird, Can't figure out how to add the other two. I'm sure I've left something out but please be patient as I'm a senior citizen. Should I uninstall and start over? And if so, at what point will I be adding all 3 email accounts. By the way all 3 are with the same ISP, "q.com" That's q for QWEST, which used to be USWEST and is now CenturyLink.

Simply run the new account wizard to set up a new account. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration
Make sure to give the account a different name than any existing one.

Let me repeat the part that is giving me problems: So I had to download and install Thunderbird. Here's the problem. Only one email account installed. Whoops looks like my reply was not included, so this time I won't Quote.
Thanks I already used the automatic account configuration tool and let me repeat my original inquiry:

I need to add two more. Do I need to uninstall and re-download??????
I already used the automatic account configuration tool
Then use it again to set up the 2nd and 3rd account.
let me repeat my original inquiry:
There is no need to post that again.
Do I need to uninstall and re-download??????
No. You need to run the new account wizard to set up a new account.
Let's say I do that christ1, since it has been years since I have had to do this, my email ISP has changed. The current ISP will recognize that? For example it has changed from @crpud.net to @q.com.
If Thunderbird fails to automatically detect the correct server settings for your email provider run Manual Configuration. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration
Note, you'll need to obtain the correct server settings for your email provider before doing that.
So I ran the automatic download and it did not detect all of my emails. Then ran the manual downloiad and it did not ask me to type in an added email address. So I went to Options, Account Settings and added a new email but when I finished it displayed this:
Configuration could not be identified-is the username or [password wrong?
What have I done wrong this time? I entered the existing password with my current email that I had before I replaced the hard drive.
Thank you
So I ran the automatic download
Your terminology is confusing. What do you mean with 'automatic download'? Didn't you want to set up your additional accounts? What has this got to do with 'automatic download'?
it did not detect all of my emails.
The 'new account wizard' can automatically fill in the correct server settings for your email provider, if they are known. It certainly won't detect any emails.
Configuration could not be identified-is the username or [password wrong?
As said before, you'll need to obtain the correct server settings from your email provider if you use the manual configuration.
Apparently once I shut down and restarted Thunderbird it did load my added email address, now I have two. Partial success and thank you for your guidance.
However it is not accepting the password I added for the second email. I know it is correct as I wrote it down. Cases sensitive, exactly the same. Neither does it accept the password for the first email, which it shouldn't but I am at a loss as to why it won't accept the password I set just yesterday.
I am sure it is something I am doing/not doing but I am not catching my mistake. Is there a way to change, not try another, password for the second email?
Try to verify your password via webmail using a browser.
Is this what you are referring to?: http://webmail.mozdev.org/
I found this advice: http://www.ehow.com/how_5821511_reset-password-thunderbird.html
But it still isn't accepting my password for my second email in TBird. I have changed my Master and my second email password. At this point I am asking a second time, would it be possible to uninstall and reinstall to fix this?
I guess what I am looking for is a step-by-step if you still feel that uninstalling is not a preferred method. I need to get this fixed as I am falling way behind on responding to emails.

No. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webmail
I have changed my Master ... password.
The master password is for encrypting your account passwords. Otherwise it has got nothing to do with your account password.
I have changed my ... second email password.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_and_changing_email_passwords
if you still feel that uninstalling is not a preferred method.
You'd be wasting your time. As a workaround you can use webmail any time.

The link you provided for changing my password, is the link I discovered. Thanks though.
I have no concept of what using webmail means. And I would prefer to get this right, but I need to know the step-by-step for getting it right. Can you provide a link for this?
So far what I've tried is not working, and remember I am a senior citizen who knows little about this stuff, which is why I am here. Thanks
I have no concept of what using webmail means.
That's why I posted the link to the Wikipedia article above. Please read it.

As I already stated, "The link you provided for changing my password, is the link I discovered." I found it prior to you providing it. It didn't help me, since it mention nothing about the use of webmail. And as I also stated, I don't want a work-around. I want TB to work as it should.
Somewhere both you and I are not understanding each other very well.
I want to download and install TBird and have it automatically recognize me a a very longtime client, not as a new client having to remember my passwords.
But you never mentioned I could find my passwords within TB and log in. I have discovered how to do that now on my own. Either I or you are not very intuitive, and that's perfectly understandable. I have always told my wife that and she still doesn't believe me. Ok so now you don't either. No problem. I won't bother you anymore. Sorry for the trouble. And thanks for trying.
I found it prior to you providing it.
Congratulations.

The MozillaZine article has got nothing to do with webmail. I have no idea why you think it would. Since you mentioned you have no clue about webmail I posted a link to a Wikipedia article explaining what webmail is all about. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1121900#answer-875957
In case it isn't obvious, you're supposed to click the link and read the article.
And as I also stated, I don't want a work-around. I want TB to work as it should.
The whole point to try webmail is to verify your credentials. I didn't expect this being such a big deal.
Somewhere both you and I are not understanding each other very well.
Possibly. In any case, you'll have to do your part to solve your problem.
chris1, I don't think I like your attitude. You seem to respond with a megalomaniacal, anti-social, low-brow sense. Instead of reaching into your bag of data, you have been reaching into your bag of disgust and distaste for those who are older, such as myself, without being the least bit courteous. I hope one day you will climb out of your hold and become a less bitter soul. Perhaps you are what is commonly referred to as "burnt out" in this field.
You did not solve my problem. I had to and that's not why I came here. I wish you well, but I am almost secure in knowing that you will take this critique as an affront to your far too lofty self-respect. That's a damned shame too, cause you probably have a lot of good in you, you have just temporarily lost the ability to treat people with dignity.
Enjoy your week
This all sounds like an anti virus program trying to scan mail when the account wizard is run. Turn off any anti virus email scanner before you run the new account wizard
Thank you Matt, wow what a simple solution potential. I will try that.
