how to view the email addresses in a mailing list after it is entered in the To: field?

Chosen solution

In a composition window, press F9 to show the Contacts Sidebar, then double-click a mailing list to add it to the address box. Right-click the mailing list, Properties, and click OK to display the list contacts in the sidebar.

If you want to display the list contacts for the purpose of deleting some of them, there are add-ons for that purpose:

You won't be able to see them in the Write window, That's the whole point of using a mailing list. You can look up the list when you open the address book though.
