We are working towards such an offering, but we are not there yet.

So what is your problem? perhaps we can solve it anyway.

MT is not receiving email at all unless I close MT then reopen. Once I reopen, all my emails come in from.....the last time I closed/opened MT. Even after I have MT open......and receive email.....I manually click any of the Get Messages....none come in......unless I close then reopen MT.

It would have helped if you had mentioned your email provider. However, from your problem description it sounds like it's GoDaddy.

There are a number of people who complained about not getting new messages via GoDaddy IMAP recently, unless Thunderbird is restarted. Check with GoDaddy if they have problems. Assuming there is a GoDaddy support forum, check whether other users have the same problem.

i cannot see how the problem is Godaddy since MS Outlook does not have this problem. In addition, Godaddy won't talk to anyone unless you are using their web-email app. When using the Godaddy web-email app, the emails are fetched and displayed automatically......normally.

Webmail infrastructure is independent from POP/IMAP/SMTP servers. Therefore, if webmail works, this is no indication that there are no problems.

still does not explain how Outlook 2010/2013/2016 systems don't have a problem getting emails all day long.

For as long as I can remember, there has been a manual way to retrieve new messages. Here is how to do it in Tbird 38.x.x 1. Click on "File " in menu 2. Click on "Get New Messages for > 3. Select which account to retrieve email from or Click on "All Accounts"

If you do not have the "File, Edit, View ...." menu showing, then press "Alt-V" and choose "Toolbars>" then choose either "Menu Bar" or "Mail Toolbar"

If you selected Menu Bar then follow the steps shown above.

If you selected "Mail Toolbar" then click on the "GetMessages" to get messages for all accounts to be retrieved. If you do not want messages from all accounts, then click the arrow next to the "GetMessages" entry and select the account you want.

Retrieval can be done any time you are connected to the net. I have done it several times in a few minutes when waiting (impatiently) for an email to arrive.

You can and should set up each email account to retrieve messages regularly. 1. Left Click on the name of the email account, and the account screen is displayed. 2. Click on "View settings for this account" 3. Click on "Server Settings" 4. In the middle of the page are options for retrieving mail. Click on the options you want. I always have "Check at startup", "Auto download new messages", and "Check every xx minutes"

I picked 10 minutes for some reason in the past. If your email response time is not really critical (for example: mom's emails with recipes), then make it every 4-12 hours???? We used to set a longer time because on the slower internet hookups (dial up) and slower machines, it would actually affect working on the machine. Not a problem any more with even the "slowest" machine you might have connected to cable.

There are other ways, but these two are what I use.

If you really need the extra two lines to read your emails with, then do not use the menu or toolbars. I assume your monitor is probably bigger than a 13", so they should not be a real problem.

Hope that helps.

It doesn't fetch email either way, manual or automatic. The only way to force MT to get email is to close then reopen......this is the problem I am having.

I can not see how the problem is Thunderbird as the problem only exists at godaddy.

Something of an impasse really.

So how about you log the connection and find out were it is failing.https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging

We could really use some facts about what is happening with godaddy. But as I

am not a customer I am in no position to ask them. Unlike yourself who is a customer.
more options

that's why I was trying to find a consultant.....godaddy won't talk to you if you use MT, Outlook or anything else. They only support their POS web-email app.

more options

That is why Danica Patrick was such a good spokesperson for Go Daddy. Just like Danica, Go Daddy crashes every couple of weeks.

more options

after an hour chatting with godaddy tech support, they again say there is absolutely nothing wrong with their IMAP servers. godaddy says the problem is with "Mozilla servers". I did not know there was a Mozilla server....does this mean my email goes from Thunderbird....to.....Mozilla server....then out to godaddy? thankfully my contract with godaddy is up this year.

more options

No, it proves the point that Go Daddy are idiots. Thunderbird is email client software running on YOUR computer. Email providers have servers. Thunderbird is not a provider.

more options

Any luck with that log?

Matt I apologize. I cannot find my way back to the forum, where I originally posted......I was going to look at the procedure to get a logfile. can you send the procedure again..............thanks............ray

more options

OK i did the logging procedure. I opened MT and the logging started. I received a message from yahoo.com but not from my godaddy ray@rciokc.com. I had send a message one each to yahoo and RCIOKC.com. So I closed MT (which i think closed the log) then reopened MT (which I believe reopened the log), and I received the message from my phone that was sent to the godaddy ray@rciokc.com

I am assuming that the log was truncated as the server is still working through it's folder structure when the message ends.

Perhaps you could email me the log as an attachment at unicorn dot consulting at gmail dot com.so I can see the end where it is failing to get mails.

It would appear Godaddy have actually addressed the issue with their servers.

Our analysis is godaddy had/has an issue with their server software not actually delivering the mail it had said was here.

See the information in This bug for details.
