Importing bookmarks when copying places.sqlite doesn't work.

I moved to a new laptop. I want to move my bookmarks also. When I copied the places.sqlite file from my old profile on my old laptop to my new profile on my new laptop and run Firefox, it creates a new file and renames my original to places.sqlite.corrupt. How can I get around this issue? Firefox still works on my old laptop. Curiously, the file size of the new file matches the file size of the old one, it's just empty.
