Thunderbird constantly "not responding"

more options

Hi,

For the past 2 weeks Thunderbird constantly "not responding" ... I've been all over the internet and tried every "solution" including switching off the AV Bitdefender .. nothing works.

If I don't find a real solution soon I will be forced to try another email provider, (which I don't want to do).

Please help :(

I've been all over the internet and tried every "solution"

What solutions?

including switching off the AV Bitdefender

And that means what exactly?

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01 - Win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode - Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

If I don't find a real solution soon I will be forced to try another email provider,

Up to you. But how is your email provider related to Thunderbird?

Wow! Christ1 .. you are so aggressive and dissmissive at the same time.

I've tried starting windows and Thunderbird in safe mode as well as switching off my anti virus ... when I mentioned my "email provider" I obviously must have used the wrong title. I was trying to say the collector of mail like "outlook" "thunderbird " "mail.com" etc my appologies if I did not know the correct technical term for this type of service.

Maybe it's just a setting that needs changing, (hopefully).

All I'm asking for is a little help ...

Fair enough. But then why are you 'threatening' to use another email client? Beats me.

I've tried starting windows and Thunderbird in safe mode

Please confirm you did start Windows in safe mode. What was the result?

as well as switching off my anti virus

As asked before, please explain what that means. I suppose BitDefender has more than a single option to turn it on or off.

There are various things that can cause any program to not respond. Windows OS, Adobe, java etc performing updates in the background will always get a not reponding on my computer, so I set the updates to notify me but not install until I'm ready. I still allow updates to Anti-Virus.

'BitDefender' needs exclusions to be set to not scan any Thunderbird folder on startup, that means both the Program and your Profile folder. Possible help here:

'BitDefender' also needs settings to stop scanning incoming/outgoing mail.

Switching off 'BitDefender' may not provide the results you expect; you may discover that Windows own 'Defender' has now switched on.

If you are running 'BitDefender' make sure it is the only Anti-Virus product running.

What Windows OS are you using? What version of Thunderbird ?

After setting updates to occur when you specify. After setting up 'Bitdefender' to exclude Thunderbird folders and not scan incoming and outgoing mail. After ensuring only 'BitDefender' was the only working AV and Windows own Defender is not running as well.

now please perform these tests, in the order stated and provide feedback on each test. Go into 'Offline' mode. either : 'File' > 'Offline' > 'Work Offline' or click on the two blue screen icon located far left in Status Bar. It will change to two black screen icon = offline. You will not be able to download or send emails, but you will be able to select folders, emails, access Account settings and Options, Write emails and use 'Send Later' to put them in the Outbox. Please perform various tests accessing different parts of TB and note the results.

Do you get non responsive if you are using Thunderbird in 'Offline' mode? Is there a particular thing you do which will trigger a non responsive whilst in Offline mode?

Clicking on the two black screen icon will get you back to 'online' mode.

Then, do this in this order: Started Windows OS in Safe mode with Networking. Started Thunderbird in Normal Mode If you have some IMAP folders, allow time for Thunderbird to access server. When did the not responding occur? Whilst initially accessing servers to download mail? Did you simply select an imap folder? Did you delete an email from an imap mail account? Did you move an email?

If not responding occurs, whilst the Windows OS is still in Safe Mode with Networking, restart Thunderbird in SAfe Mode. Repeat observation on when 'not responding' occurs. Report back on results.
