Ugly new grey bar at the top of my screen after re-downloading mozilla firefox

I just downloaded the latest Mozilla Firefox as it has been years since doing so. Now I have this ugly grey bar at the top of my screen at all times, even if I am not in the web browser. It is irritating and I would like to see it disappear since this is a small netbook and I don't have room for an extra "toolbar" or whatever it is. How do I make this thing disappear?

Chosen solution

Doesn't sound like part of Firefox, or there was a graphical glitch that left some screen debris.

Is it possible you accidentally installed a third party bundle? Please check in the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.
