How do I delete all duplicate contacts from addressbook without having to reposition the list for each one?
Somehow or other many duplicate entries appear for contacts in my addressbook. When I go to delete the duplicates, each time I do it, the list reverts to the beginning. Since it's a very long list this is a big nuisance. is there some way I can get the list itself to stay stationary so that after I delete the duplicate I'm back in the same place in the alphabeticaly listing?
A second question: why do I get these duplicates and how can I prevent it? It takes me a lot of time to clean up my addressbook and I have to do it frequently.

Are you looking at "All Address Books"? This is a composite of your individual address books and will make it obvious if you do have duplicates in multiple address books.
I use this add-on to manage duplicates in the Address Book: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/duplicate-contact-manager/
Hi Zenos, thanks for this reply. I was looking in All Contacts, so I tried to download your suggested Add-on but was told 'Application not available'. Do you have another suggestion, perhaps? DOL

Hi Zenos, Thanks very much for the Duplicate contacts add-on. I now have it installed, but the problem is there are no instructions on how to use it. I've tried to find instructions online, but so far no luck. Can you point me to a source of them? DOL
From memory, I think it appears under Tools in the Menu on the Address Book window.
If this window doesn't have a menu, press F10 or the <alt> key to make it appear.
