I need to get at the folders list that was always displayed to the left of messages in New Comcast. Thanks

I need to get to "layout" as I was advised to do. If I can get there, I am supposed to tick "folder pane" But I can not get there. I have struggled with this question now for days and no one has helped me solve it. I am about to give upon Thunderbird.

Move your mouse to the left edge of the screen. Watch for it to change to a double headed arrow. When it does left click, hold and drag to the right. Does this drag the Folder Pane out?

The Thunderbird window must be maximized for this to work.
