Why do I have to disable my network in order to start Thunderbird?

If I start Thunderbird normally it will open then shortly after it will say the application is not responding and it will never respond. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't fix the issue. The only way for me to use it properly is to disable my network and then open Thunderbird. At that point it will work as expected. But why is this? Please help.
