In TB for Windows, can I get a total mail count?

I'm using Thunderbird with Gmail and it beside the All Mail link is the the number of bold email. Which are those bold messages and how the wide display the mail count.

Try View|Layout|Folder Pane Columns

When this is enabled, you can use the little button at top right of your folders pane to select which columns are shown.
