How to select composing mode
Thunderbird: 38.5.1
Question: how do I select which composing mode (text/HTML) to use when creating new message/replying to message?
At this moment there's single way to do it - first open Settings, check/uncheck corresponding selection and only then proceed with message composing. This is, politely saying, not convenient.
I need to choose which mode to use in every particular case.
Thanks.

Yes there is very quick method of swapping between HTML and Plain Text. I've provided a bit more info than you may need, but it should cover the topic - especially if someone else reads the info.
I have my thunderbird set up to use HTML as I use frequently, but I also like to use Plain Text on specific occassions:
- Right click on mail account name and select 'Settings'
- select 'Composition & Addressing'
- Select 'Compose messages in HTML'
- click on OK
I also make sure all my emails are sent in both formats, sothat the recipient can also choose how they wish to read the message. 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab or 'Menu icon ' > 'Options' > ' Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab
- click on 'Send options' button'
- select 'Send the message in both Plain Text and HTML'
- click on OK
If you have specific people in your address books who always want to receive in Plain Text format, there is an option to set this up.
- Click on 'Address Book'
- select the address book to see contacts.
- double click on contact in list to open EDit Conatct window.
- On the first 'Contact' tab, at the bottom
- 'Prefers toreceive messages formatted as 'select 'Plain Text'
- click on OK
If I click on 'Write' it will always offer the HTML format.
However, if you hold down 'Shift' key and click on 'Write', it will open in Plain Text format.

So, basically, holding "Shift" when choosing "Reply"/"Write" toggles the set composing mode, as seen in

Pity it's not that obvious unless explicitly known.
Thanks!
