I currently have Firefox 43 installed on my Verizon HTC One M8 (running Android 5.0.1). For some reason, I cannot update to Firefox 44. I have tried everything on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-latest-version-firefox-android

We are currently in the process of a staged roll out for Firefox for Android. 10% of users are getting updates from the Play Store.

Ah, I hadn't realized that the Play Store had that feature. There's no real feedback given to the user about why it won't update.
