How do I get my Address Book addresses back after having installed Windows 10?

With difficulty, I finally installed Windows 10. I had the Thunderbird email program on Windows 8.1 before starting the Win 10 installation. My Thunderbird is now installed, but I lost all of the email addresses in my address book. I also lost emails that I had recently sent. Happily, my email Inbox was intact. Is there any way I can retrieve all of my old email addresses in my address book? This may not be possible. If it is possible, I would appreciate clear instructions in doing so. Thank you so much.

The information you are missing is stored in a set of folders known as your profile. If you didn't know this, or if your data backup procedures didn't include these folders then it is gone.

The default settings in Windows tools that offer to backup data seem to take a somewhat cavalier attitude. Microsoft advise software authors to use specific locations and then fail to include these same locations in their data backup utilities.

Anyhow, this article explains the profile and where to find it. Maybe you do have a copy available somewhere.

I found my profile readily. Unfortunately, I think my old address book is gone forever. I just wanted to say "Thank you," Zenos!
