Would someone please post a "direct" link (when they have time and feel up to it) to download Mozilla Firefox for my Amazon fire 5th Generation Tablet WITHOUT Google Play? Amazon detected for me, since I'm not too savvy, that my Version is: Kindle 4.1.3. I've google this and looked on the Mozilla Firefox page for help, but even when it looks as though I can download it without Google Play, the links I've had sent to my email all have Google Play.

Thanks For Your Patience And Help!!

Hi

Firefox for Android is currently not available for download from the Amazon app store for Kindle devices. Since Kindle Fire uses Android as its underlying operating system, there is a way to install Firefox for Android on these devices, directly from Mozilla.

To do this, you should install the Aurora edition of Firefox for Android. This is a pre release version of Firefox, so may contain some unresolved issues that are still being worked on, but will allow you to get updates to Firefox for Android on your Kindle Fire device, as well as see new Firefox for Android features before they are finally released.

On your Kindle Fire device:

  • Open the Settings application.
  • Select the Applications option.
  • Change Apps from Unknown sources to On (a warning should be displayed. Please read this before continuing)
  • In the existing browser in the device, go to mozilla.org/mobile/aurora.
  • Tap on the download button on the page to download the application file for Firefox Aurora.
  • Open the downloaded file in a file manager app on your device. The file should be found in a Downloads folder.
  • Firefox for Android will then install and update as updates become available.

Once installed, you may wish to go back into the file manager app on your device and delete the downloaded file to save space. You may also need to do this after any updates.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

@Seburo Thank you very much for "all" of your hard work and your quick response! Being an amateur, you have no idea how much you've helped me! Please take care and have an awesome rest of the week!

Mozilla wants to put Android Firefox on the Amazon appstore as Mozilla did have Firefox 9.0 up briefly. However it was found that Amazon modified and resigned the apk which caused update problems so Mozilla pulled it shortly after. Mozilla has contacted Amazon many times about modifying this policy, so far Amazon has been unwilling.

The Release and Beta channel builds (for Android) do not get updates in manual apk install as to why the Aurora aka developer edition channel builds is suggested as per above.
