Check boxes for email lists? Add a note to an email?

I'm in the middle of a lengthy filing exercise on several years of mail.

Most of the time I can only use one hand and can't sit up for long, so selecting messages is more of a problem than Thunderbird is designed to cope with. Most of my other file handing programmes, and even my ISP's web mail interface, have checkboxes to make one handed selection of files much easier. I am quite surprised that, though Thunderbird has been provided with other tags, like the stars (can't use these for selection because I'm already using them for importance), nobody seems to have come up with a simple check box add on. I'd really appreciate it if someone were to make a simple add on to provide this functionality.

Also, as I've been doing some spreadsheet work, as well as filing the mail, I keep finding myself wanting to add a note to emails, to remind myself of what I done with them, or as a reminder of their contents, or where the original is filed, and other things that might occur to me, that I would like to label the message with, but without editing it. I want these notes to pop up like the little note flags that I can add to Excel cells. It would be great to have these hover over notes to help me pick the right mail, without having to open it. When sorting and filing, I like to maximise the number of messages I can fit on my small notebook screen, so I don't find the preview pane very useful--and don't really want to see more than a small note, that isn't part of the normally visible message. A properties sheet for each message as we have on ordinary files and photos, would be a good idea, but I really only need the note pane, at the moment.

It would be great if these functions/refinements could be added to Thunderbird, to make it easier to use, for those with restricted movement and space. Maybe someone has thought of the note/labelling idea before, and knows of an add on that might do the job.

Many thanks,

S

The check box option is not likely to be added to TB unless a mobile version is developed. It is, however, available in the Win 10 Mail app.

For message notes, see this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/xnotepp/

It's also possible to edit the Subject or the complete source:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/edit-email-subject/

Thanks sfhowes: The xnote looks just the job!

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

I had trouble (possibly still do) with another add on--Blur. I had been using MaskMe to keep all my log ins, but was told I should update to Blur. Then I couldn't at fist, because a button to export the settings from MaskMe to Blur didn't show up in FF. I spent ages trying work arounds, and, eventually, got Blur installed, but the log in button disappeared off the toolbar after one session, after which, I couldn't get into any of my log ins because MM had made them too complicated to remember.

Anyhow, I had more or less given up on it, when the Blur button just appeared on my toolbar again about an hour ago, so I'm thanking you quick: before it disappears again and locks me out! Crafty bug for them, because I couldn't log in to Mozilla to give them a bad review either!  :)

Many thanks. (y)

Can't see how to delete a comment rather than edit it. :/

This was a remark that the XNote wasn't as good as expected, but it turned out I wasn't quite using it the best way, and had not noticed there was a way to make the email header change colour.

Cheers.
