Change default app from TextMaker 2012 to Textmaker 2016--how?
When I get an attached .doc or .docx file I want it to open TextMaker 2016. right now it opens TextMaker 2012. How to fix that? Same thing for spread sheets. Right now it goes to PlanMaker 2012, it needs to go to PlanMaker 2016. I can't find out where these default applications are set up. And I don't understand why it should be so hard to find the setup! Please point me to the answers to these questions! System is PCLinuxOS 64-bit KDE. Present Thunderbird is 38.4.0. Thanx--doug

Your image shows that so far, you have not told Thunderbird what program to use with those documents. So, therefore , it will not be in the list.
When you get eg: a .doc attachment. right click on attachment and select 'open'
A small window appears asking what to open with. select: : Open with and see if the program you want to use is in the drop down selection. If the program appears in the list, select it. If it does not appear select 'Other' Another window and list appears. Is the program in the list? If yes, select it and click on OK If you cannot see it, then click on 'Browse' and locate the program .exe file and click on 'open'. select checkbox 'Do this automatically for files like this from now on.' click on OK
then you will see that it has been included in the : Edit/Preferences/Attachments/Incoming window.
Repeat for different attachment file types.

The listings do not show any of the present triggers, i.e., .doc, .docx, and so on, nor do they show the present TextMaker 2012 which is at this moment the chosen action. This must be the wrong place to set this up. Also, please remember that this is a Linux version of T/B. I think this used to be in the config file--the one that always says you may get into trouble and makes you say "OK, I'll be careful." But now that file does not look anything like it used to, and I don't see anything there that looks like setting up preferences.
This is disgusting. Mozilla keeps changing the rules. The "answer" you just posted is useless. I don't know what I'm going to do now.
The attached picture shows just what i said in my first reply.
