How to get rid of "Search Genius"? I tried almost everything already.

This adware "Search Genius" which kind of seems to be posing to look like a poorly designed version of the Google home page just showed up uninvited and will not leave. It appears on its own each time I add a new blank tab. i already removed it from my search engine list and changed my options to "default search engine" But it's still there. I have a Macbook Pro running OS 10.8.6.
