My email address ends with @ualberta.ca and not @gmail.com. Thunderbird doesn't seem to accept my email address. It gives me a message saying "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account". I use gmail to access my ualberta.ca email. My password is entered correctly. I've tried putting imap.ualberta.ca, and change ssl to ssl/tls and played around with it but it's not working.

After enabling IMAP, the correct settings for TB should be:

incoming IMAP server: imap.gmail.com port: 993 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication: normal password Username: your ualberta email address

outgoing SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com port: 587 Connection security: STARTTLS Authentication: normal password Username: your ualberta email address

There are some additional tips re Gmail accounts here, such as disabling the copying of sent messages to the Sent folder (Gmail does it automatically).

Use manual setup. Get the correct setting from your provider and use them.
