Recently updated to MAC OS 10.10.5. Don't know what I did but now Thunderbird is in an extremely annoying inescapable full screen mode. The three little toggle size buttons are gone and don't reappear when I mouseover anywhere it makes sense for them to be. There is no handle or whatever in the lower right of the window to resize it. ESC doesn't end it. Hitting F11, FN together or separately does nothing. The annoying three stripes that reveal the menu only allow to me to zoom or un zoom. Lack of control and frustration and intuitive crap that doesn't work stinks.

Chosen solution

Try this: Control-Command-F

Located this info which says the small green button may have got you into full screen in the first place. It's a Mac thing. http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/leave-full-screen-os-x/

re :The three little toggle size buttons are gone and don't reappear when I mouseover . http://www.cnet.com/how-to/where-to-find-mac-os-x-yosemites-full-screen-button/ The three button, when it’s hidden in fullscreen mode, there is a specific gesture to make it appear: Move your pointer towards the edge of the screen and then move it some more in the same direction. The gesture isn’t very obvious to figure out, You have to hover over and wait for them to pop up again. A simple hover over area and move away will not get them to show.

re:The annoying three stripes that reveal the menu only allow to me to zoom or un zoom. That is the Thunderbird menu which obviously is not going to change the situation.

re; Lack of control and frustration and intuitive crap that doesn't work stinks. Well, you'll be pleased to know that it is not a Thunderbird issue. You are using a Mac and just need to get acquainted with it's particular ways of doing stuff.

Thanks Toad-hall your thoughtful reply is much appreciated. The slowly hover all over the the top left corner worked. Happily back to work now.

Try this: Control-Command-F That didn't work

I must have manually turned off the new improved green button function before this update and with the minor update it reverted.

Thanks for the feedback on what worked for you. Good to hear you got that 'slowly hover' method to work and was able to get out of full screen.
