Once you've added the contact pictures into the address book, how do you back this up so when you install TB on another computer you can move everything over?

It retains the profile. So long as the images are stored in the profile, it must preserve them too.

I do not use images for contacts but have you tried exporting your address book? Does this not include the images? It is always a good idea to export the address book periodically for backup reasons.

I have tried LDIF and importing it back but it doesn't include the pics.

Can you verify that this retains the photos for each contact?
