I'm just staring to use Thunderbird. It has a PREVIEW PANE as the default. I do NOT want a preview pane. How do I turn it off? Thank you!

Press F8. It's called 'message pane' and it's by no means a preview of the message. It does in fact open the message just as if in a separate window or tab.
