How can I get bookmarks back - can't add, restore from file, or import even after pc restart and deleting reinstalling Firefox?

Bookmarks disappeared. Can't add new bookmarks, import from another browser, open file of previous bookmarks. I have tried the solutions in help and troubleshooting without success. CCleaner stops working when it reaches Firefox. I have used this for years with out problem. Everything else seems to work.

Chosen solution

Problem solved by synching with my cell phone. None of the solutions in "Help" resolved the problem. CCleaner now working again.

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Select All of the tests. Then press Execute on the bottom.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You are lucky to have had a backup handy.
