Spell check changes words that are not incorrect. How do I stop this?

Using US English dictionary, when I try to type decor, decoration, etc. Spell Check changes it to décor, décoration, which are not preferred options. Also when I type the word committee, it changes it to committeee. I recognizes that these are errors because it gives them a red underline, but still insists on making the changes each time. I have added the desired words to my Personal Dictionary, but it still changes them.

Chosen solution

I think I may have discovered the solution. I have Texter text replacement program on that computer. When I deactivated that, the errors stopped. Though those keystroke combinations are not in its dictionary either, it seems to not be a problem with Thunderbird, but with Texter. Thanks to those who responded.

Have you ever installed a french language dictionary?

Check 'Tools - Add-ons - Dictionaries'. If you find a French dictionary, remove it. Close and re-open Thunderbird and check that same message for spelling errors, or open a compose window and type decor, decoration, and committee into a new message and then check spelling. Are the words still being flagged?

Thanks for responding. I have only the English U.S. dictionary installed.

When in compose right click in the body of the email and select languages. Is thee only English (United States) showing?

If so start Thunderbird while holding the shift key and continue in safe mode when prompted. Does the dictionary still play up?

Thanks for the ideas, but right clicking in the body of the email confirms that I have only English (US) dictionary installed. When I restarted with the shift key depressed, it says nothing about SAFE MODE, and still does the same thing.
